The article deals with the influence of F. M. Dostoevsky's works on J. D. Salinger's artistic world. The peculiarities of this perception have been studied through the phenomenon of silence. The author of the paper pays attention to such aspect of the poetics as "high silence" analyzed in the religious and philosophical context. The material under investigation is the novel «The Catcher in the Rye» by J. D. Salinger.
