The trip of the polish commercial attach'e A. Zmigrodzki to Ural and Siberia in 1934 in the context of the Soviet-Polish relationships

The subject of this article is the Soviet-polish relationship of the interwar period. Purpose of the study is the research of the trip of the commercial attaché of the Embassy of Poland Antoni Żmigrodzki from Moscow to Ural and Siberia in summer 1934. The objectives of the article are: identify the reasons for the pole’s travel to the Asian part of the RSFSR, to consider the conditions of travel of Polish commercial attaché, to assess the significance of the report A. Żmigrodzki as a historical document for studying the history of Soviet-Polish relations, history of the Stalinist period. The first part of this article is the answer to the question: ”Why soviet-polish rapprochement of relations happened in 1932-1934”? At that time in Germany there was the strengthening of Nazi-party. According to the Russian and Polish historiography Stalin and Piłsudski tried to resist together their neighbor. The second part of this article is the answer to the question: «What were the conditions and the results of the trip»? According to the documents of The Archiwum akt nowych (Warsaw) we know that A. Żmigrodzki visited the Soviet plants and factories accompanied the soviet official. But there was no enter to chemical and zinc plants. In the result the Polish diplomat had been to ten industrial centers of the asian part of the USSR. There were shortcomings and achievements of the development of the Soviet industry in the report of the commercial attaché. A. Żmigrodzki made the conclusion the Ural-Siberian industrial zone would become one of the most important economical region in the USSR to 1940.
