"Under the ferule of rhetoric": semiotic aspect of the travelogue genre in I. A. Goncharov's "Frigate “Pallas”"

I. A. Goncharov’s opinions about «the theory of travel» are considered. The semiotically phenomenological character of the writer’s artistic thought is revealed, allowing a specular reflection of the author’s theory of the travelogue genre in describing a tour round-the-world to be imagined.
