The article discusses V. Nabokov’s Despair, his first «parody thorough» novel, based upon the doubling principle. The «text-within-a-text» structure and the perfectly identical «embedding» and «embedded» texts reveal «a veritable struggle» (P. Tammi) between the agents of the narrator and the implied author as well as the victory of the latter over the former.
