Travel-study in the Moscow region: development prospects

According to UNESCO, by 2020 the share of travel-study will have grown to make up 25% of the overall global tourist market, and will account for approximately two trillion USD annually, thus assuring the tourist sector’s status the leading complex of scientific and cultural development, which primarily concerns scientific, ecological, expedition, sport, and cultural tourism as both science and culture are interested in the principal motives for people’s mobility and migration. Moreover, the two constituents (science and culture) are to be identified in other types of tourism, such as health tourism, business tourism, and congress tourism. The types of tourism under consideration significantly impact the geography of travel. Travel-study in the Russian Federation is in a budding state, and, according to the author, its development will considerably improve Russian domestic tourism. In the article, the author analyses the prospects of travel-study development in the Moscow region, which has a high potential for the development of this type of tourism: unique scientific centers (Pushchino, Dubna, Chernogolovka), industrial complexes (the Zagorsk pumped storage power plant), rocket and space technology museums (Dubna, Reutov, Korolev).
