From the implementation of the smart city concept to the implementation of the smart region concept as one of the directions for improving regional management

The article systematizes the results of introducing the concept of “smart city” in the urban environment management system. Based on the analysis, it is proposed, within the framework of the national projects “Housing and a Comfortable Urban Environment”, “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation”, “Ecology”, to expand the concept of “smart city” to the concept of “smart region” based on the best practices for managing the urban environment and suburban areas.
