Main directions of activity of the Nizhny Novgorod consistory in 1740-1750's

The article covers basic forms of work of the Nizhny Novgorod Spiritual Consistory as a supreme regional body of religious authority during mass Christianization of non-Orthodox population of the Volga region in the mid-XVIII century. The activity of the Consistory was aimed at Christianization of major ethnic groups of Nizhny Novgorod region. The author assesses the influence of results of this activity on the situation in Nizhny Novgorod province. The research is based on materials of the Nizhny Novgorod Spiritual Consistory archival collection kept in the Central Archive of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
