The organization of hospital support for sick and wounded soldiers arriving from the fronts of the World War I is considered on the example of the rear city of Simbirsk. This work took place in difficult conditions. There was a lack of medical facilities for the organization and equipment of infirmaries, so it was necessary to convert buildings that were not designed to accommodate the sick and wounded. There were acute problems with the supply of medicines and dressings, food, heating, linen and clothes, leisure activities, and, of course, the lack of qualified personnel.
