Evaluation of various forms of training in the specialty of ophthalmology at the department of eye diseases of the South Ural State Medical University

Research problem and substantiation of its relevance. Recently, the process of education at the university is undergoing various changes, the attitude of students and young doctors towards it is changing. In this regard, teachers need to constantly change and effectively improve teaching methods. The purpose of the study is to assess the interest of students in various forms of education used at the Department of eye diseases when teaching the discipline “Ophthalmology“ both in the system of higher education and additional professional education. Methodology (materials and methods). A survey was conducted of students and ophthalmologists studying at the Department of eye diseases of the South Ural State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (FGBOU VO South Ural State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia). Two questionnaires were developed for the study. In total, 250 students and 178 ophthalmologists took part in the study. Results. According to the survey, it turned out that 35.9 % of students consider the benefits of lectures to be minimal, while 44.3 % of doctors consider lecture material to be an extremely important and useful form of education. A significant part of the respondents (64.8 % of students and 52.3 % of doctors) consider such a form of training as practical training to be very useful. When evaluating attitudes towards testing, a third of the students surveyed consider it is useful, and almost half of doctors see minimal benefit or consider this form of education useless. Writing essays is a minimally useful or useless form of learning according to half of the students and doctors surveyed. More than half of the students surveyed and 88.6 % of doctors consider curation and clinical analysis of patients to be a very useful form of training. Most of the doctors we interviewed (74.7 %) were satisfied with their chosen profession and did not regret their choice. There were no respondents who were completely dissatisfied and regretted their choice of profession. Among the students surveyed, 21.9 % definitely did not want to become an ophthalmologist in the future, and 1.7 % of the students definitely decided to connect their professional activities with ophthalmology. Conclusion. According to students the most useful forms of education were the development of practical skills (67.6 %) and traditional practical classes (67.6 %). According to ophthalmologists, the most useful forms of training were lectures (47.6 %) and analysis of clinical cases (88.6 %).
