Images of Russian history in the oratorial prose of Feofan Prokopovich

The author analyzes examples of citing Russian history in the “Discourses” and “Panegyrics” of Feofan Prokopovich, delivered between 1705 and 1725. The author attempts to elucidate the sources used by Prokopovich and to understand the purpose that historical imagery plays in his official speeches. The author concludes that Prokopovich used the same methodology in his approach to imagery from Russian history as in his approach to imagery from sacred history.
