This article examines the reasons and features of two political trends in the ranks of the Cossack emigration of the second half of the 1930s -mid-1940s: defensism and defeatism. The authors analyze the heterogeneity of these currents, the various shades within them and the ways of realizing their attitudes: for the victory or for the defeat of the USSR during the Second World War. In the article, the authors try to answer the question: defencism and defeatism (collaborationism) are a regularity or a historical phenomenon, an exceptional phenomenon of Russian, including Cossack emigration.
