Analysis of characteristics of funerary assemblages (location of cemeteries and barrows, barrow shape, elements of the funerary rite and offerings) in the eastern area of the Pskov Long Kurgans culture offered an opportunity to identify graves of later periods dated to the 8th/9th - 11th centuries similar to the graves discovered in the western area of this culture. the later burials were unearthed at various kurgan cemeteries such as Poddub'e, Berezino, cherentsovo and Shitovichi located in the upstream of the Shlina River and the Shegra River basin. All data suggest that the population of the Pskov Long Kurgan culture did not abandon all areas of the vast region they occupied. the process of this culture transformations and its inclusion into the Medieval Russian culture through direct and indirect contacts with the population that resettled from the Ilmen Region and the Volkhov River Region was traced down.
