This article consists of two parts. Te introduction refers to the outstanding Old English Christian writer and preacher Abbot Ælfric of Einsham (955 - circa 1020), known as the composer of the lives of the Old English saints. Writen in the late 10th - early 11th century, the homilies of Abbot Ælfric were published in the 19th century with an English translation. Ten one of these texts - a somewhat abridged version of a homily on the feast of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ - is presented in Russian translation. In 2013- 2014 modern English translations of some homilies of Abbot Ælfric of Einsham appeared in the journal Orthodox England. To our knowledge, the works of Ælfric have not yet been translated into Russian
