«Konjaku Monogatari-shu» (Anthology of tales from the past) of the XIIth century is the largest Japanese collection of didactic tales setsuwa. It contains more than one thousand stories, including «Buddhist» and «mundane» tales on various topics. Its 25th book is entirely devoted to warriors and consists of fourteen stories, the text of two of which is now missing. The annex to this article presents the translation of seven stories into Russian with retelling of the rest in order to give the readers an idea of the 25th book of «Konjaku Monogatari-shu» as a source of information on the morals and manners of the Japanese military class and the image of an ideal warrior in the XIIth century.
