New change trends of segmental and suprasegmental levels of Russian language

The article is devoted to modern changes in segmental and suprasegmental levels of the Russian language functioning. The tendencies on the segmental layer concern consonants, vowels and accentuation. At suprasegmental level changes affect the intonation of different types of statements. The author suggests the reasons for the emergence of new phonological and prosodic features in Russian speech such as a result of exposure to foreign samples, affecting both segmental and suprasegmental levels. Intonation component of the statement is important because it carries not only linguistic, but also extra linguistic information. The mass media which uses more free style of statement and communication with the audience/listeners appears as the catalyst of changes at the different levels of phonetic system of language.
