New data on ceramic facade decoration in medieval Russia architecture of the second half of the 15 - early 16th centuries

The paper reviews elements of relief ceramic façade decoration fragmentsof which were found during the 2016-2017 excavations on the spot of the dismantledChudov Monastery in the Moscow Kremlin. Based on the analogues found, it becamepossible to reconstruct missing parts of the design and date the artifacts to the secondhalf of the 15th century. Besides, the chronological timeline when this type of ceramicdecoration, to which the Chudov terracotta artifacts are attributed, was used and modified,was determined; the chronology covers the period from the first use of such terracottadecorations at the sites in Moscow and the Russian North to the first half of the 16th centurywhen it ceased to be used.
