The need for a systematic approach to Russian tourist destinations development in the growing perils of overtourism

This article discusses the problems of overtourism, and shows the relationship of this quite new phenomenon with a number of sustainable territorial development issues. The subject of the study is the influence of overtourism on tourist destinations development. The article is aimed at identifying promising regulation areas that will help tourist and recreational specialization in the region and at the same time decrease perils of overtourism. The research hypothesis is the assumption that restrictive measures should be combined with innovative technologies of regulating tourist flows and planning visits to attractive cultural, historical and recreational facilities. This will help to optimize the destinations loading and objectively assess the economic and environmental indicators of regional tourism. The article uses a systematic and situational approach, modeling of socio-economic processes, as well as formal logical analysis. The research resulted in proposals for determining parameters and indicators of socio-economic and environmental effect in managing tourist destination development. The main paths of future research are in the developing a system of indicators for assessing the impact of overtourism on tourist destinations.
