The article reveals the essence and content of the intangible heritage, its features and characteristics. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the fact that folk traditions, rituals and holidays occupy an important place in the life of every nation, and are the foundation for the upbringing of the younger generation. In modern conditions, in the age of informatization and computerization, which are rapidly affecting people's way of thinking, displacing cultural and moral values, knowledge of the historical past, experience and wisdom of peoples, is especially relevant. Knowledge of the basics of folk life allows the younger generation to inherit the traditions of the older generation, forming the culture of a modern civilized society. The article provides examples of intangible heritage and identifies three main categories of intangible heritage. The article reflects the main ways of preserving the intangible cultural heritage. The first way is intended for theatrical types of arts with the preservation of the traditional style. The second way is intended for folk storytellers, for oral creativity. The third way is considered to be the most effective for the preservation of intangible heritage - it is the preservation through records and archiving, as well as the support of masters, carriers and performers of traditions.
