The necropolis of the Chudov monastery in the Moscow Kremlin. Investigations of wooden burial constructions

The paper presents preliminary results of archaeological excavations on the spot of the Chudov Monastery necropolis in the Moscow Kremlin. The excavations conducted in 2016–2017 examined more than 100 burials, most of which had been made in wooden coffins. The paper contains a brief description of the funerary rite, including that of wooden funerary constructions, and reconstructs their shape. It also provides results of radiocarbon dating of samples of the wood the coffins had been made of and samples of the bones from the burials.
