This article discusses the issue of the principle of professional activity of judges - competence, its non-fulfillment, as a basis for challenge and termination of powers. A comparative description of the institutions for challenging and terminating the powers of judges in conjunction with the principle of competence is given. A conclusion is presented on the completeness and reasonableness of the grounds provided for by the procedural law for the removal of a judge and termination of powers.
