Introduction: the article discusses the change of the appointment and performance of expertise during the period of the first Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation and Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic in the Belarusian territories in the first half of the XX century. It was the historical period when the transition of normative regulation of expertise from the pre-revolutionary, where it was considered as one of the types of examination, to the modern one, when the legislator referred it to the number of investigative actions took place.
