Introduction: the model of crime in Russian criminology was formed in certain historical conditions associated with the existence of socialist social relations. The article is devoted to answering the question: can a change in the socio-economic formation affect the crime model? Materials and methods: in the process of research, a set of methods was used: dialectical materialism, an integrated approach to the study of history, a system of general scientific and private methods of cognition, including: observation, comparison, description, analogy, formal classification, as well as logical methods and methods of research (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction). Results of the study allowed the author to generalize the issues collected in the process of studying, related to the formation and development of the crime model in the USSR, to determine its specific features in specific historical conditions. Findings and conclusions: with the transition of Russia to a capitalist socio-economic formation, the system of social relations has changed significantly, social equality is not a constitutional value, and the criminal law does not reflect the interests of the whole society. The values of Soviet society, which allowed the Communist Party to formulate its goal in this way and not otherwise, have become history. This situation opens up the possibility of searching for the most relevant characteristics of the criminological model of crime.
