The mentality of medieval Japanese warriors in the western studies, 1990-2015

The article discusses how the culture and ideology of medieval Japanese warriors is represented and analyzed in the Western studies of the latest decades. Comparing to the early XXth century today many important medieval texts are translated, many historical facts uncovered, that allowed those who study Japanese history and culture to purify an image of medieval warrior from stereotypes and myths, to understand many social and political realities of the context in which the warriors lived and to suggest theories of samurai culture and mentality.
