The paper substantiates the need to develop a new methodological approach to ensuring the management of innovation processes at the meso-level. In the modern world, the development of economic science is constantly taking place, while complicating the existing knowledge about how economic processes proceed. It is proved that within the framework of methodological institutionalism, any socio-economic system is studied in the context of a system that combines formal and informal institutions, thanks to which the system retains its integral character and develops, and the social phenomena inherent in it are explained by functioning and changing institutional formations. It is these institutional formations that form meso-level social systems. It is proved that one of the ways to identify meso-level systems can be considered taxonomy. It is a theory describing a methodology that allows you to classify and systematize complexly organized and hierarchically structured areas of reality, one of which is a taxon. Developing the theory of innovation process management in the postmodern economy, the author proposes a new taxonomic unit - a meso-level innovation ecosystem, the use of which allows for the formation of more systematic analytical models and management mechanisms corresponding to modern trends in the postmodern economy. The paper presents the author’s vision of the meso-level innovation ecosystem, the definition of its boundaries and specific properties.
