Material-technical condition of the school education system during the Great Patriotic War

The article is devoted to the analysis of the state of the material and technical base of secondary schools in the Ulyanovsk region during the Great Patriotic War. The author, based on the study of the unpublished materials from the funds of the State Archive of the Ulyanovsk Region and the State Archive of the Modern History of the Ulyanovsk Region, focuses on some key points: the allocation of financial assistance to secondary schools by the party organs, and the financial situation of teachers and pupils. The author draws up a conclusion that, despite the severe challenges, the system of secondary educational institutions in the Ulyanovsk region continued to function and pursue its fundamental mission, i.e., raising the level of pupils’ literacy.
