The article describes the evolution of Malcolm Bradbury’s theoretical views on the novel genre. The close connection of the concept of Bradbury theorist with his historical and literary research and his artistic experience as a writer is noted. The article reveals the problem of the relationship between realism, modernism and postmodernism in the literature of the second half of the twentieth century, identified by M. Bradbury.
