The article contains an analysis of the sources from regional archives which contains data on cultural and leisure institutions in Russian provincial towns. The author characterizes the specifics of identification of such sources in the funds of regional archives. The contents of the sources provide us with the grounds to characterize the cultural and leisure space of the Volga region city during the World War I.
