A cantilever compressing device for the osteosynthesis of leg comminuted fractures

Extrafocal osteosynthesis of the leg comminuted fractures using the Ilizarov fixator and adaptation of the bone fragment to its bed with the help of wire with stopper may be of high risk due to damaging blood vessels and nerves on the other side (with respect to the fragment) of the segment involved. This article introduces a compressing device the use of which completely rules out the possibility of the complication and increases the effectiveness of bone fragment reposition and fixation. The device is easily configured from the elements of the Ilizarov fixator set, and successful clinical evaluation makes it possible to recommend it for the wide adoption in the practice of orthopaedics and traumatology.
