We analyzed the cost of stroke. The structure of material costs of hospital stay, examination and treatment of different patient groups with stroke was shown. For the first time in the study a method «cost-effectiveness» was used. The method allows an assessment of a clinical and economical role of regular antihypertensive therapy in patients with arterial hypertension, who suffered from a primary ischemic stroke; the method also makes it possible to count the material costs of the treatment. We compared the data of different patient groups with arterial hypertension. The findings displayed more favorable course of the disease in patients, who took chronic medication before the stroke, than in those, who didn’t undergo any treatment, or was treated periodically.
