Categories and number of industrial workers in Russia in the first half of XIX century (based on the material of Middle Volga region)

The article analyzes the dynamics of changes in the number of industrial workers during the ? rst half of the XIX century in relation to different categories of workers: the landlord, possessional and civilian. The territorial scope of the Middle Volga region covers a territory within the boundaries of Penza, Kazan, Samara and Simbirsk provinces. It reveals the share of the number of different categories of workers in the region, as well as investigates the correlation of this index with the data on Russia as a whole. The conclusion of limit of market of free labor, determined the importance of forced forms of organization of industrial labor throughout the pre-reform period.
