On the problem of identification of the Balts elements in the female jewelry set of the Martynovka type

Based on the analysis of the Dnieper early medieval hoards referredto Group 1, the author of the paper reaches the conclusion that the impact of baltstraditions on female jewelry of the early slavs in the Dnieper region was insignificant. The impression that a lot of items were borrowed is created by the jewelry pieces ofthe same mass-produced types (pendants, tubular beads, chains, etc.), which formedthe basis of the jewelry sets in the Dnieper region and the Baltics region and wereknown in both regions in the early middle Age and the preceding period. Hence, stylistic similarity of the Martynovka female jewelry set with the Balts set at the levelof individual items and the level of jewelry sets is stipulated not by direct contactsbetween the populations of these regions, which were contemporary with the periodwhen the Dnieper hoards were made and hidden, but by a common basis of the jewelrysets in question that developed in different regions in a similar fashion.
