On history of the Russian identity formation: culture forming elements

The paper highlights the problem of developing Russian culture - an important part of Russian identity. The author focuses on the role of the State in that process, for its contribution to the cultural development is under no doubt, especially considering the fact that in contrast to Western Europe, Russian culture has been being built up with top-down governance approaches. The prologue formation of Russian culture dates back to the XIV-XVII centuries.
