Connections between Max Scheler’s axiology and artistic intentions of August Strindberg are considered in the article. Phenomenological consideration of the artist’s pursuits in Strindberg’s play “On the way to Damascus” exposes the main lines of controversial thinking observed in the art of the Swedish author and German axiologist, parallels and constants in their perception of the value content of personality. A person in the works of both thinkers is characterized by the existential contradiction between intelligible and emotive part of the personality.
