Change of the ventilatory response on the hypoxia increase of the level interleukin-1 in blood and cerebrospinal fluid

In experiments on anesthetized, traheostomized rats the effects of the main pro-inflammatory cytokine in- terleukin-1β (IL-1β) on the hypoxiс ventilatory responses was studied in intracerebroventricular and sys- temic injection. It was established that the elevation of IL-1β level in the body causes a decrease in ventilatory sensitivity to hypoxic changes in blood gas composition: it was shown a decrease in slopes of tidal volume, minute venti- lation and average rate of inspiratory flow reflecting the level of the central inspiratory activity. Also it was established that intravenous administration of IL-1β a lesser weakens the hypoxic response than the in- taventricular injections. The data obtained suggest that an exogenous increase in proinflammatory cyto- kines in blood and cerebrospinal fluid modulates chemoreceptor reflexes.
