From the memoirs by I. V. Vtorov: French war prisoners in 1812-1814

The authors for many years study the fates of the militaries from Napoleon’s Great Army who had become Russian prisoners in 1812 and spent about 18 months in the inner provinces of Russia, and, among them, in Samara. The publishing memoirs by Samara district judge I.A. Vtorov shed light on the conditions of detention of war prisoners, on their relations with the officials and with the representatives of different estates of Russian society.
