Historiography of the problem of relations between power and society in Russia in the field of nature protection

The author discusses the features of the historical research of the problem of relations between government and society in Russia in the field of nature protection, analyzes the scholarly works devoted to this topic. She identifies four historiographical periods reflecting the main trends in the study of this problem. The author concludes that for a long period the environmental issues have been the subject of study only for specialists in natural sciences, and humanitarians have joined its study relatively recently. The generalizing works on environmental history first appeared in the second half of the 1980s, and the problem of the relationship between power and society in the domestic historiography is still touched fragmentally and very superficially, remaining to date almost unexplored.
