Main issues of studying the early Neolithic of the Mari Volga region

The article deals with the history of the Early Neolithic of the Mari Volga region. The author reviews various theories and conceptions, as well as some controversial issues. He also suggested a periodization of the historiography of the Neolithic of the Mari Volga region. Particular attention is paid to the cultural and chronological definition of ceramics given in the research works.
