Introduction: the article considers the methodology of legal science as a multidimensional phenomenon. The methodology of studying certain phenomena, processes and phenomena differs significantly depending on their nature. The article shows that the application of methods is determined by the attribution of the studied object to the material or immaterial world. The methodology of studying natural sciences and disciplines differs significantly from the methodology of studying the humanities: for example, it is impossible to conduct an experiment in the field of jurisprudence, which is tied to social processes. The point of view is also expressed, according to which extrapolation from some legal phenomena to others is uninformative and ineffective. Methods and Materials: the work uses a combination of dialectical and systemic research methods, methods of interpretation and interpretation of various points of view on the topic of the article. The Results of the Study: at the present stage, the research methodology of legal science is based on pluralism. There is no desire to develop a certain unified approach to this methodology despite a large number of works on this topic. Findings and Conclusions: within the framework of pluralism, various methods for studying legal sciences are used to study state-legal phenomena, and if philosophy took over this function in many ways earlier, now the set of methods has significantly expanded and represents a multicomponent structure. A relatively new direction is the use of logical methods for the study of state-legal phenomena, but these methods are little applicable to the study of the methodology of legal sciences.
