The article presents the role of the fort Simbirsk and its residents in the formation of the Russian army as well as the rescue of the young Romanov dynasty. The soldiers of the regiment were rewarded with acres in the Simbirsk area. The soldiers had to be in militant action for Motherland at a word of the government and cultivate land in time of peace. The control of the new troops called for reorganization of these troops. Peter I solved this problem having formed Russian regular army. The core of the army was the first 34 regiments which consisted of chosen men. Simbirsk infantry regiment was one of them (the precedence of the regiment has been determined since 1708). Later the regiment was discontinued resulting from the reorganization of military forces. However its troops allotted Uglich regiment. On the verge of the war against Napoleon it was required to organize attached infantry regiments. One of the regiment included the units of Uglich regiment which was subsequently named after Simbirsk regiment in order of precedence. This regiment has born the glorious name of our city through years and countries.
