Objective: to study individual-psychological characteristics of military servants determining adaptation success. Materials. Between 2016 and 2017, 96 military servants younger than 23 years undergoing military service by conscription (50) and contract (46) are examined. Sample is formed by method of randomization - random selection. Methods. Cattell’s 16 Personality Factors Test, Buss-Darkee Inventory, questionnaire “PEN”, test “Life-Purpose Orientations”. Conclusion. The paper presents analysis of psychological approaches to study of individual characteristics of personality development of a military servant as a system capable not only to adapt but also to modify actively the reality, to develop and improve oneself in various spheres of military activities, in different conditions of changing settings. The reliable differences in individual-psychological characteristics of military servants undergoing military service by conscription and contract are revealed.
