Based on the data of a sociological survey carried out in 2020, the paper analyzes the ideas of the inhabitants of Russia with a double Russian-Ukrainian ethno-identity about the history of both (“mother” for this ethno-community) countries, as well as the connection of these ideas with identity. It was revealed that people with biethnical Russian-Ukrainian identity are much better aware of historical figures from the history of Russia than Ukraine. The history of Russia is personified primarily by military and political figures, while representatives of the cultural elite occupy a peripheral place. On the contrary, the history of Ukraine is equally associated with both politicians and military leaders, as well as with cultural figures. This perception of the history of the two countries is reflected in the identity of biethnic people. The Russian part of ethnicity is linked by them primarily with the state and those emotions that the state personifies (pride in the country, patriotism, etc.). On the other hand, the Ukrainian part is more often described by more intimate (family, private) emotions, i.e. those emotions that the cultural elite displays.
