The Christian View of the Value of Material Goods The article analyzes the biblical and patristic ideas about the value of economic goods, as well as the Christian view of the market price. It is shown that in the Scriptures and in the writings of Christian authors the spiritual and material goods are clearly delineated. It is noted that the spiritual goods that are incomparably greater and have equal value for all can not be the subject of economic exchange under any circumstances as a gift given by God. Economic exchange based on the division of labor became the forced ministry of people who are in a sinful state. A comparison of the values of exchanged goods became the basis of this exchange.
