Formation of the system of training of teachers-defectologists in Russia in the 20s of the XX century (Pedagogical Institute of Child Disability)

Based on the source material introduced into scientific circulation for the first time (documents from the funds of the State Archive of the Russian Federation and the Scientific Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences) and published works by V. P. Kashchenko, the issues of organization and functioning of the Pedagogical Institute of Child Disability in Moscow, the basics of the educational process, research activities, student activity are considered. The significance of the institute's activities in the context of the development of higher education and defectological education is determined, as well as the assessment of V. P. Kashchenko's contribution from the point of view of contemporaries. For the first time, problematic issues in the management of the activities of this educational institution are identified, as well as the main forms of public activity of its leadership aimed at promoting the ideas of the need for special education in society are presented.
