Fishing is one of the most significant spheres of the ancient hunting and gathering economy. As a rule, the data of the period found in the territory of Primorye is pretty scarce. The significant data about fishing in the Peter Great Bay are mostly gotten from Neolith (Boisman Culture), early Iron age (Yankovsky culture) and have been obtained from shell mounds. The Neolith settlers preferred coastal fishing during warm seasons of the year at shallow waters as well as in lagoons, often using such metods as jackfishing, harpooning, and spearing. During early Iron age fishing season lasted all year round with the wide use of hook and net gear at relevantly open waters. Burial complexes data demonstrate the importance of fishing in Iron age.
