Pre-industrial Chuvash society and traditional identity (the second half of the 19th century)

The article researches preindustrial Chuvash society. In the traditional society there prevailed archaic institutions. Traditional farming rituals played special role in the social reproduction of the Chuvash communities. Historical memory associated with Turkic past was also one of the central constituents of the traditional identity.
