The paper describes the dynamics of mortality of the population of the European North-East of Russia in the late XIX - early XX century. The total mortality rates of the population in the region are compared with the indicators for European Russia. The process of reducing the overall birth and death rates taking place at the all-Russian level, was not noted in the Komi Region. At the same time, the mortality rate of the urban population was significantly lower than that of the rural population. Throughout the studied period, high mortality was characterized by a significant concentration in younger age groups. The mortality rate of children under the age of one year averaged 45-50% of the total number of deaths in the region. At the same time, the process of reducing the proportion of deaths in older age groups has begun among the population of the region.
