The article is devoted to the research of regional features of the transformation of mortality in the Tatar ASSR in the late 1950s - 1960s. The paper bases on the of archive materials of the National archive of the Republic of Tatarstan and on the results of the published researches. The author managed to define specifics of conditions of mortality, its dynamics, and development factors to establish social consequences of transformation of general mortality and child mortality in the region. In particular, the author defined the main determinants of this process, the specifics of influence of the Soviet society conditions on mortality process, having revealed high death rate from the suicides and accidents connected with the effect of alcohol. The received results are compared with the data of the Russian Federation that allowed emphasizing the regional features. The author managed to confirm a hypothesis of transition from traditional to modern type of mortality during this period.
