The article is devoted to the demographic situation in the Republic of Serbia, which is linked with the tragic consequences of the wars and conflicts of the Second World War and the collapse of Yugoslavia. These events (genocide, extermination, expulsion, forced immigration) are still awaiting international legal assessments, but have already been reflected in the pages of research. The demographic consequences for the Serbian people, which over the course of their history have repeatedly stood on the brink of complete extinction, cannot be measured only in numerical terms; such tragedies are permanently imprinted in the memory of generations, determine the future gene pool and the demographic potential of the nation. The demographic consequences of these tragedies, along with the socio-economic ones, have become the most difficult for the Serbian people.
