Further development of the specially protected natural territory “Stolby”: reserved area or a national park?

This paper presents the results of the comparative research of further development of the specially protected natural territory (SPNT) “Stolby” (Krasnoyarsk region), which has been implemented within the Master's theses “Development of the Specially Protected Natural Territory “Stolby” as a Reserved Area” and “Development of the Specially Protected Natural Territory “Stolby” as a National Park”. On the example of SPNT “Stolby” the expediency of changing the status of the “reserved area” to the “national park”; as well as the consequences of this change both for the protected area itself and for the social and economic development of the region as a whole are considered. Based on the issues of legal regulation of the specially protected natural territories in the Russian Federation the architectural and design structure, permitted and ongoing activities in the territory of SPNT “Stolby” and also taking into account a number of strategic documents of the Russian Federation with respect to the specially protected natural territories, tourism, social and economic development of the Krasnoyarsk region, the concept of further development of SPNT “Stolby” is given.
