Based on archive study, contemporaries memories and letters, the author introduces the influence and role of the Army in social and political course in Povolzhye (the Volga region) at the beginning of the XXth century and conceives the changes of soldiers consciousness during the first years of the First World War. It is concluded that armys fatigue, disaffection resulting in unbearable living conditions and severe barrack regulations increased anti-war moods of the troops and led to disintegration of the russian army.
